Turn positioning requirements into a controlled drive specification
In an automated reducer, a small dimensional change can show up as lost motion at the driven axis. Start by defining whether the machine needs simple speed reduction, repeatable indexing or an adjustable low-backlash mesh. Those are different duties even when the outside housing looks similar.
For service work, record backlash before disassembly, note the axial adjustment position if the unit uses a dual-lead arrangement, and inspect bearing condition. A new shaft cannot compensate for loose support or a damaged wheel.
